The Lyceum at Silo City is an urban land management nonprofit based at Silo City in Buffalo, NY. Our modern-day lyceum captures Aristotle's 'walking and teaching' and participatory method with our boots in the soil immersive approach to ecological training and experiential arts and cultural programming.

Our work includes regional restoration ecology, integrated site-responsive arts, and intentional community-building that connects the public with Silo City's unique urban landscape, situated amongst the city's largest collection of historical grain elevators. We create exceptional experiences for those who love learning, collaborating, and discovering. Grassroots Gardens WNY is a dedicated group of community gardeners and activists. Our mission is to share knowledge, power and resources to grow healthy food, heal systemic harm, and strengthen neighborhood connections through community gardens. We collaboratively cultivate and manage more than one million square feet (and growing!) of urban green space. We have over 100 community gardens in our network.
Our work is rooted in the belief that a garden has the power to transform a neighborhood. Community gardens deliver beauty and escape while many produce healthy food in unexpected places. A garden creates a shared sense of purpose that empowers a community, creates environmental awareness, and improves public health.

Did you know NOCO has a composting site in the Old First Ward?
Stop by and learn about composting and what happens at their facility just off Katherine St. on the Buffalo River!
Placing emphasis on environmental conservation, Noco is focused on sustainability and the beautification of the communities they serve.
Their product is manufactured through the controlled aerobic, biological decomposition of biodegradable materials. The product has undergone mesophilic and thermophilic temperatures, significantly reducing the viability of pathogens and weed seeds (in accordance with the EPA’s 40 CFR 503 standards) and stabilizing the carbon, making it beneficial for plant growth.
As a result, they keep thousands of tons of organic surplus from going to regional landfills annually while producing environmentally beneficial compost.
